1. Go to http://cycling74.com/downloads/runtime/ and download appropriate software (OSX or Windows). This is a “playback” version of the programming enviroment i work with – it will allow you to use the program I made without buying anything.
2. Install the software. Some users might have to install Quicktime for Windows, or some sort of Java (if installer asks you to install something, choose YES). This might take some time, but it is all very standard software, so it shouldn’t be too difficult.
3. Install my software. Please, copy the folder (it’s pretty big because of the video files) on your hard disc – it will not work as it should from usb stick.
3. Run the program – Task 2014.mxf. It should automatically play the first task. If it doesn’t, try to press keys 1-0 (above letteres, not on the numeric keyboard). If you don’t see any movies, choose Max window from Window menu (or press cmd+M) and Max window will pop up. Select the text, copy it and send bug report to me imklif@gmail.com – I will do my best to make it work for you.
4. Program has a simple help build in. It shows a short description of controls if you hold the mouse over them for few seconds – try it. Click HELP YES / HELP NO to enable/disable it.
5. Almost all controls have keyboard shortcuts. Those are very handy. Try to use them as much as possible for quick control of parameters.
Here are the shortcuts:
space bar = play/stop
numbers 1-0 = play first 10 movies in 1024×768 folder
enter = randomise loop position
backspace/erase (above enter) = loop forward or forward-backward (a.k.a. pingpong loop)
arrows left+right = move loop forward bacward one by one frame
arrows up+down = change loop lenght from 2 to 200 frames
escape = go fullscreen (if you work with second display or projector, you need to drag the window to the second screen before going fullscreen)
6. You are free to use your own movies with the program. For quick testing, use the “read, getframe” button to load a movie. For automatic loading place your files in 1024×768 folder – all movies will show in the drop down menu when you start the program, and first 10 movies (alphabetically) can be recalled using number keys on the keyboard. Movies will play the best if they are compressed in something like photojpeg in 1024×768 or lower (depends on how fast is your computer). Mpeg and h264 compressed movies will not loop very good. This is how it is, take your time to recompress the movies and they will play better.
Happy looping
